This Trip Includes:  Cusco, City Tour,Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and The Choquequirau Trek

 

Day 1:

After arriving in Lima, a taxi will take you to the hotel El Ducado. This exclusive hotel is located near the beach and the beautiful shopping mall Larcomar which you can vist if time permits.

 

Day 2:

To your hotel where you can relax and get acclimatized to the 10,912' altitude of Cuzco.  We will start our tour around the city of Cuzco in the late afternoon. An  English speaking guide will take you on a tour around the Cathedral built on the ruins of the Wiraqocha Palace,  The Santo Domingo Church built upon the Koricancha Temple. Both of these buildings reflect the fusion of Spanish and Inca cultures as you will notice the amazing and unique paintings, gold and silver sculptures. We will proceed with our visit to the ruins of Sacayhuaman, a military fortress and sanctuary. After returning to our hotel around 6:00 pm., you can enjoy one of the many restaurants and the nightlife in Cuzco. 

 

Day 3:

After Breakfast we will take a bus to the town of Cachora where we will camp at the house of our arriero.  An arriero is the man who owns the mules and horses and our arriero is a very kind and honest man. Our porters will also meet us there to set up our camp and cook us dinner.  That evening you will get a chance to relax and get to know our porters.

 

Day 4:

This morning we will have a nice breakfast with hot tea. Afterwards we will leave the town of Cachora that sets at an elevation of 9,432' on our way to Rosalina Beach on the bank of the Apurimac River where we will camp for the night. There is a great spot near the bridge to take a nice swim in the river after along day of trekking. Along the way we will stop at Capuliyoc which is a two hour trek were it is possible to get a coke. There are a few small huts and camps along the way to get something to drink.

We will stop at one of the many spots to have lunch. Along today's trek you will be looking down at one of the world's deepest canyons in the world, it is a breath taking experience with some giant snow capped mountains in the background like Chaupiloma, Padreyoc and Amparay. From Capuliyoc we are going to be descending to the Apurimac River which is a very long and steep trek. Our porters will have our tents set up and camp ready when we arrive with some hot tea and snacks before dinner.

 

Day 5:

After an early morning breakfast we will begin the long and difficult climb up and out to the other side of the Apurimac Canyon where it will flatten out for a bit along some great meadows. We will reach Marampata in about five hours where our porters will have a small lunch waiting for us. From this point it is about a two hour steep trek up to the camp site just below the ruins of Choquequirao. Here we will have dinner and relax for the rest of the evening.

 

Day 6:

Today you will spend the day with your guide going around all of the sectors of Choquequirao. The ruins are very spread out so you will go up to the high section, come back for lunch, and then go down to the lower section of terraces. We will have an early dinner and get ready for  the long trek back across the Apurimac valley

 

Day 7:

 We will get back on the trail at 6:00 am for our long trek back to the last camp Chiquisca Where we will spend the night. Here the porters will cook you a great dinner and you can buy cokes and beer also. This will be our last night on the trail with only a 4 hour walk the next morning. So enjoy the evening.

 

Day 8: 

Our last day. We have breakfast at 5:00 am and get on the trail at 6:00 am. We have about a 4 hour walk back to Cachora where we will have our last lunch with our peruvian host and say our good byes to them. We will get on the bus and on our way to Cuzco we will make a two hour stop at Cconoc, and enjoy the natural hot spring for a very refreshing break. Then off to Cuzco where you will arrive at about 8:00 pm in the evening.

 

Day 9:

Have a day to relax  or shop around

 

Day 10:

We will get up early this morning and after breakfast at the hotel, we will go to the train station for our trip to the town of Aguas Calientes. This is a small town that sets below Machu Picchu. After getting to our hotel you can rest, walk or even relax in the hot springs.

The train ride to Aguas Calientes is about 4 hours. There is a long switch back ride out of Cuzco, then the train will run along the Urubamba River where you will notice various small villages.

 

Day 11:

After breakfast, we will head up to Machu Picchu on a 30 minute bus ride. Once you pass thru the gates, your eyes won't believe the incredible site that lies before you. At Machu Picchu, your guide will take you around the different sectors, explaining the myths and history of this great place. You will be free to wonder around, have the chance to get some amazing photos, and even climb up to the top of Huayna Picchu.  After lunch, your bus will take you back down to Aguas Calientes to catch the train to Cuzco, arriving later that evening.

 

Day 12

Early in the morning you will get your flight back to Lima where you will be transfer to the hotel El Ducado. Depending on you flight back home you may have time to walk down to the beach or Larcomar.
